Title:  Ireland and beyond
Description:  Hi my name is Hank Dahl from Statesville and I am a missionary with Royal Servants a division of Reign Ministries. We take teams of students that range from 13-19 along with discipleship group leaders who are college age and above on summer long mission trips that range from 5-8 weeks. I left for our trip on June first and came back August first. While our trips covered 19 countries, my wife Jackie and I had the privilege of leading a team of 35 on the Ireland team in which we worked in Londonderry, Skerries and Dublin. We prepared students before we left training camp in Lewiston, Illinois for the responsibilities they would have as well as cultural preparation and team unity.
Upon our arrival in Londonderry we started the first day with holiday clubs (version of VBS) then we jumped into youth events and street performances. Our students prepare, even before they come and then while they are at training camp, to do relational ministry which opens the door for sharing the gospel.
In the middle of July we headed south to Skerries, a coastal community outside of Dublin, to do similar ministry there. It was exciting to work with a team of students that was so eager to meet people and share their faith all the while being eager about their own spiritual growth. They met many Adults and students here who were living in an area where Christianity has become dead and were able to impact many for the gospel.
Before we headed back we took the team to London for a week to debrief the summer. While we spend 5-6 hours every day of the summer doing outreach ministry we also take several hours a day discipling our students for their personal walk with Christ through teaching and quiet time opportunities daily. While at debriefing we wrap that up as well as we prepare them for heading back and succeeding at home. This is a very important part of what we do as we not only want to impact the world for a summer but prepare the generation to make an impact to their next generation.
There were several students in the Observer circulation area that went this summer on various different trips, and it has been a privilege to watch them, and the other students from around the United States on our team, continue the work as they have come home. They are forming bible studies and sharing in conversations where they go and I get the opportunity to do small groups with the ones in our area while speaking at churches and Christian schools about missions and summer opportunities. So the summer was only the beginning of the ministry that happened.
